History Of Croatian Sport
Croatian basketball:
Do you remember Drazen Petrovic and Toni Kukoc? Croatia has achieved success in basketball with many successful basketball players, but here is not end of story. Croatia has a new generation of many young people even in NBA. So far, Croatian basketball team managed to win medals at Olympic games, World championships and European championships.
Croatian handball:
This is one of the most successful Croatian sports in these 20 years! Croatian handball became an institution of the sport and one of the biggest handball nations ever. It may seem incredible, but the list of achieved successes is so impressive that it would be difficult to list them all! They have medals in all competitions. Let us not forget that Ivano Balic was declared for the best player of all times in handball.
Croatian water polo:
The Croatian water polo team is one of the most successful sports in Croatia, with medals from all big championships including Olympic Games, World championships and European championships, Mediterranean games, World Cup, and World league.
Martial arts and boxing:
When we talk about martial arts and boxing, here is Croatia impressive! Let's start from Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipovic, Stipe Miocic, Zaninovic sisters, Zeljko Mavrovic, Branko Cikatic, Stipe Drvis, and many many more young fighters which are still active and have great results.
Water sports:
One more area where Croatia has impressive results! If you go from sailing we must start with Sime Fantela and Igor Marenic, Tonci Stipanovic, Ivan Kljakovic Gaspic, if we continue with Croatian canoeists you probably heard for Emil Milihram. We have also many fameous rowers like: Damir Martin, Martin & Valent Sinkovic, Sinisa & Niksa Skelin, Damir Sain. If we continue with Croatian swimmers we must name for sure Sanja Jovanovic, Gordan Kozulj, Mihovil Spanja, Mario Todorovic and many many more athletes.
Athletes:
I can be short here and say only Sandra Perkovic (discus throw) and Blanka Vlasic (high jump), there are many great athletes in Croatia, but they won all what is possible to win. Impressive results.
Please have in mind that those are only most known sports, so I named only few people in each category, because there is impressive list of Croatian athletes who made this country proud. Do not forget Croatia has only around 4.2 million people and it is very young country. Those results are from 1990. on, what makes this list even more impressive. If you have desire to research some sports after this article, and search some names from this list, you will see a lot of medals, impressive results and many more great people!

When we talk about Croatia, all will think right away mostly about sport, but there is a very good reason for that. Impressive results! More recently, Croatia has become increasingly popular because of a very good education, but more important because it is beautiful country with an abundance of natural beauty and people know it as exceptional tourist pearl with very nice people.
But we will now talk about sport and all impressive results which such small country achieved!
Croatian football:
Do you remember the unforgettable Croatian national football team from 1998., led by Davor Suker and Zvonimir Boban? Of course you remember, even today people will recognize them on the street. Even today, almost 20 years after winning third place at the World Cup in France, Croatia did not forget to play football. We have one of the strongest teams of the world with an incredible width of impressive players such as Luka Modric, Ivan Rakitic, Ivan Perisic and Mateo Kovacic. All players play in very strong teams and it would be really unfair to forget anyone.
Croatian tennis:
Do you remember Goran Ivanisevic? Of course you remember, it is not easy to forget how to break a tennis racket. He won Wimbledon also.
Croatian tennis has even more successes, do not forget Davis Cup title! Main creators were Ivan Ljubicic and Mario Ancic. Croatia can repeat same very soon this year with Ivo Karlovic, Marin Cilic and Ivan Dodig. Speaking of Marin Cilic, he is a winner of the US Open.
Croatian skiing:
We can only say Kostelic family! What for a success for this small country! Both Janica and Ivica are winners of impressive number of medals from Olympic games, World Cup, and European championship. Their results are even more impressive when you consider how hard their start was. Despite all the injuries they had, desire and support which they had from father Ante and mother Marica was very important. They hold several records also, but have in mind that those records are impressive!
